Welcome

This is the home page of the Ausable Bayfield and Maitland Valley Conservation Authorities' joint project to deliver financial assistance to owners of homes, farms, businesses and other properties for best management practices in the most vulnerable areas of the two Source Protection Areas, through the Ontario Ministry of the Environment's Ontario Drinking Water Stewardship Program (ODWSP).

Property owners located closest to municipal wells and intakes can help protect drinking water sources through voluntary early-action stewardship projects under the Ontario Drinking Water Stewardship Program of the Ontario Ministry of the Environment (MOE).

If you are the owner of a home, farm, business or other property within 100 metres of a municipal well, or one kilometre of a surface water intake, or if your property is located within a two-year time-of-travel of a municipal well, you may be eligible for funding for:

  • Decommissioning old, abandoned wells and maintenance of existing wells
  • Septic system inspections and upgrades
  • Runoff and erosion protection
  • Voluntary, confidential pollution prevention reviews for businesses, aimed at better management of material storage, handling, and disposal

To find out more visit our News and Information page. For more information or to receive information materials on these funding opportunities phone the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority at 519-335-3557 or the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority at 519-235-2610 or 1-888-286-2610.

Owners of farm properties in the three key vulnerable areas are encouraged to contact their local Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA) field representatives. Contact information is posted on this website. Farmers do not need to complete an Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) to obtain money through the ODWSP, however, those eligible farm owners who do complete an EFP may be able to obtain additional financial assistance for their beneficial projects.
